Recording Controls

Start

Click Start Recording. Vida validates permissions, checks disk space, prepares the output file, starts capture, and then runs the countdown.

Countdown

The countdown can be changed in Settings → Countdown:

  • None
  • 3 seconds
  • 5 seconds
  • 10 seconds

Stop

While recording, click the main recording button or use the menu bar control. Vida will stop capture, finalize the file, rename it, add it to Recent, and show the completion screen.

Pause and resume

Use the menu bar while recording:

  1. Click the Vida menu bar icon.
  2. Choose Pause.
  3. Vida temporarily stops adding screen, computer-audio, and microphone samples to the saved file.
  4. The visible elapsed recording time stays on the recorded duration instead of counting the paused time.
  5. To continue, click the menu bar icon again.
  6. Choose Resume.

What to expect in the saved recording:

  • The paused interval is skipped.
  • There should be no silent audio gap.
  • There should be no blank video gap.
  • Playback should jump cleanly from the moment before pause to the moment after resume.
  • If an auto-stop timer is active, it waits during pause and continues after resume.

Quick check: record 5 seconds, pause for 10 seconds, resume for 5 seconds, then stop. The saved file should be about 10 seconds long, not 20 seconds.

Auto-stop timer

Before recording:

  1. In Record, find Timer.
  2. Open timer options.
  3. Choose 15 min, 30 min, 45 min, 1 hour, or Custom….
  4. Start recording.

During recording:

  • If no timer is active, choose Set Timer.
  • If a timer is active, use timer options to extend, change, or remove it.
  • In the final minute, Vida shows a warning with quick actions like +5 min and Stop.

Vida clamps timer values to at least 1 minute. If you pause the recording, the timer pauses too; it continues from the same remaining time after you resume.
